Icy eebeads world

Mother Nature hit us with a cold blast this past week in Pennsylvania and at eebeads.com. Keeping warm at our warehouse was a bit of a joke. Our walls aren't insulated like an office building, they're just cinder block. And our windows aren't those fancy gas filled double panes either...just Plexiglas with bars...so, that's right we froze last week (and our windows froze as you can see in the picture). Shouldn't complain too much, with the heat running constantly, we could get it up to a balmy 60°. We turn the heat off at night when we leave, so when the first person shows up (she's nuts and comes in at 7:30) I don't even want to know how cold it is.

I usually work alone on the weekends and shut all my office doors and turn on a space heater and that usually works pretty good. Not yesterday or today...took 2 space heaters to keep my fingers working. Ugh. Well, the good news is today it's up to 36° and that's definitely a lot better than last week.

What's it like where you work or live? Are you freezing, or do you live down under and your dying from the heat? Send me an email at blog@eebeads.com or leave a comment below. I'd love to hear from you!

  1. Goodness. I just can't comprehend what it is like for everyone that is freezing. In Seattle we had quite a bit of snow. More then usual. Then it all melted quickly, as it usually does, then everyone is evacutated that lives on a river. Same drill this year. Thankfully I am not on a river so we were spared any catastrophe. As a city though (burbs includec) we do our best to help those that have suffered. Hang in there. Hopefully things warm up soon.

  2. Girl I seriously commend you!
I'm out of Florida and when I read things like 60 is considered warm I figuratively fall out of my chair.

Whatever happened to global warming right? Geeez

  3. A couple of years ago, I parked too close to a snowbank and my car got frozen into it. Had to chisel the hood out of the ice before I could go home...you have my sympathies.
It's days like those where I picture people in International Falls and Sault St. Marie (places the weatherman always compares us to, as the ultimate cold places) saying, "At least we're not in Alaska today."

  4. Yes, isn't it beautiful, though? Just living through it is a spiritual kick, a bracing reminder that nature wasn't designed for our personal comfort and convenience. We don't just survive. We prevail.

  5. Getting a bit cooler here in Chicago too. About -11 C (12 F, I think) last night. I work from home mostly and my bedroom is 15 C (59 F?). At the moment I wish I was dying from the heat. But how much do you want to bet that when the heat comes I'll be wishing for days like today. Loving it. Stay strong Carolyn!

  8. Where I live it is not so cold. I am fron San Francisco and right now we are looking at maybe 45 for the average. The human body adapts so interestingly if I could say. If you were here maybe this is warm for you but if I go there I will die! Eeek lol. Well goodluck to you and I clap for your business and a much more succesful time onwards. Goodbye - Mrs. Yu Chen

  9. If you are not in California or Florida it is really really cold outside. I was sitting here in Minnesota thinking about writing a post for our own blog site about our warmest sweatshirts when it dawned on me. You know what...you can hammer a nail with a banana in this weather!

  10. Vegas here...
Still supposed to be 76 here in the desert today. Our normal high for this time of year is 71 so we're still 5 degrees above normal. Today's record is 77 (set in 1950) so who knows, we may get there. We're supposed to be down in the low 70's to upper 60's by Monday.

I feel for you Icy eebeads. I used to live in Michigan (Ann Arbor) and grew up in Indiana so I remember those c-c-c-c-cold winters.

  12. Wisconsin is harsh...actually all of the nothern mid/central states are. Reason for that is they aren't close to water (humidity) and their longitude doesn't help..

  13. Yeah that's some SERIOUS freezing. What amazes me (being a amateur astronmer in my free time) is how out there in space the average temperature is -455 F. Believe it or Not.

  14. Hi Carolyn, The day you wrote about the Icy eebeads world, I was also shivering and freezing brr.just like you at another corner of the world, in Beijing, China. I was stranded there on my way home to SFO from India. But I had a chance to visit a cloisonne factory there and saw how they are made. I wrote about it in my web sit bead-z-mommys-business.com. I found some cool cloisonne beads and a cute pattern of a three strand bracelet too in your store. So I gave a link of your site in that article of mine. With all the best to you for the Happy New Year- Dita.

  15. Thank you for the link Dita, but regrettably you put it in wrong, should be _clois and you have -clois. Your site looks fun...I'm off to read what you learned about cloisonne!

  19. Hi, it's cold in NY too. Did you bring in some snow for your rabbit to sniff?

  20. It's been really chilly here in the south and sometimes I can't believe it. Makes me thing we are in Canada but then again it might all be perspective. I can't imagine how cold it must be up north, I read that a michigan man died in his home due to not having any heat. That right there is downright scary.

  21. Well out here in North Dakota I was out shoveling snow off my roof yesterday. There was about 7 dm on the roof and risk of it breaking in.
The temperature is well below -20-10 degrees celcius at night, but spring is almost here and at the day it may reach +5 celcius.
